Barn Swallows rescued!

These mourning dove nestlings came to us in August.  Did you know that mourning dove nestlings are totally quiet.  No squawking or cheeping like other birds.  The mother mourning dove feeds the nestlings crop milk instead of the typical insects or seeds that other species of birds use. .                                                 

These bluebird fledglings have a story that probably involves house sparrows. They came to us in August. 

 

 

 

This catbird fledgling came to us by way of ... Have you ever been near a bush and heard a cat meow, but couldn't find a cat anywhere around?  You probably heard the mew of the catbird.  while sometimes people call the Mockingbird a Catbird, they are different species. 

 

This immature Ruby Throat Hummingbird has to eat every 20 minutes!  The Ruby Throated Hummingbird is the only Hummingbird species east of the Mississippi. 

 

Former patients

 

This Tundra Swan was injured and separated from him flock during migration.  After his recovery, he had to be released with another migrating flock, so the call went out to bird watchers in the area to notify us of any tundra swan flocks.  One was reported in Havre de Grace and the patient was rushed there for release.  He quickly left the carrier and entered the water, but before joining the flock spent significant time grooming all the "human" off his feathers.

This Great Horned Owl nestling was treated and released this summer.
